Charles C. Brennan was excited to recently welcome rock ’n’ roll legends KISS to his Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Brennan Rock & Roll Academy. The band was on-site to view the four rooms Charles C. Brennan and his team at the Academy has dedicated—one for each of the band members. Gene Simmons specifically commented on the work the academy is doing, Charles C. Brennan recalls, saying that the academy is like a school where students learn to be rock stars.
Recently, Charles C. Brennan, a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, spoke to Interviewing Experts about the new rooms at the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy, which will be used for rehearsal for the school’s aspiring rock stars. As Charles C. Brennan explains, KISS is among several rock ’n’ roll VIPs who have stopped by the academy since its inception.
Interviewing Experts: Why did you choose KISS for this honor?
Charles C. Brennan: As far as rock legends go, it’s hard to find many who are as iconic as KISS. They represent an entire era of music that is important to anyone interested in learning to play music.
Interviewing Experts: The band stopped by the academy for the dedication ceremony. How amazing was that?
Charles C. Brennan: Pretty amazing. We had a great showing, with fans dressing up like the band members and the community showing their support for the academy.
Interviewing Experts: The band members seemed very supportive of the work being done at the academy.
Charles C. Brennan: They were. Gene Simmons spoke very highly of our efforts. He pointed out that programs like ours are exactly what children today need. He called it a “life-changing place,” and I wholeheartedly agree.
Interviewing Experts: Did Gene Simmons have a place like yours growing up?
Charles C. Brennan: No. He taught himself to play. He loved the fact that the academy provides children a place where they can learn chords, fine-tune their drumming skills, and generally make an independent decision as to whether music is a field they want to pursue.
Interviewing Experts: What does he mean when he calls the academy potentially life-changing?
Charles C. Brennan: He said he believes the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy will be instrumental in creating a rock star or two. And, since rock stars often touch the lives of many people, that makes the work we’re doing pretty important.
Interviewing Experts: KISS isn’t the first rock legend to visit the Rock & Roll Academy. You also had a visit from Alice Cooper recently.
Charles C. Brennan: We were very fortunate to welcome Alice Cooper, whom I’ve worked with in the past.
Interviewing Experts: I’ll bet the kids were pretty excited about that.
Charles C. Brennan: Absolutely. He actually gave a very inspiring talk. He has his own program geared toward kids called the Solid Rock Foundation. He tells kids that if they want to be in a gang, they should try being in a band. It’s just like being in a gang, only much safer.
