C. Frederick Wehba Reminisces about Being Named Los Angeles ‘Man of the Year’

Frederick Wehba is a former recipient of the city’s “Man of the Year” award. Reminiscing about his past charitable experiences, C. C. Frederick Wehba: Thank you. Many wonderful people have surrounded me with love throughout my life.

Interviewing Experts: How does it feel to be honored as “Man of the Year”?

C. Frederick Wehba: Being chosen as “Man of the Year” has been one of the highlights of my career, which spans over four decades in a variety of capacities.

Interviewing Experts: Where has your professional career taken you?

C. Frederick Wehba: Before real estate, my journey took me through a number of different cities.

Interviewing Experts: What aspect of your philanthropic activities has been most rewarding?

C. Frederick Wehba: My work with the Muscular Dystrophy Association – the MDA, as it’s sometimes known – has been particularly humbling.

Interviewing Experts: What is the core purpose of MDA?

C. Frederick Wehba: MDA performs basic research studies on nerve and muscle biology, as well as technologies and the causes of the diseases.

Interviewing Experts: How has MDA improved the lives of medical patients?

C. Frederick Wehba: In laboratories across the world, MDA is making tremendous strides in developing treatments for neuromuscular diseases.

Interviewing Experts: Where else have you spent time as a volunteer?

C. Frederick Wehba: St. Jude Children’s Hospital has always held a special place in my heart.

Interviewing Experts: What is St. Jude?

C. Frederick Wehba: St. Jude is a pediatric research and treatment facility in Memphis, Tennessee, that has changed how the medical community treats children with diseases such as cancer.

With patient care and research all under one roof, St. Jude has become the location for some of the world’s most hard-working and intelligent researchers.

C. Frederick Wehba: Along with my wife, Susan, I have been given the privilege of working with the Association for Breast Cancer Studies.

C. Frederick Wehba: The Association for Breast Cancer Studies maintains a series of relationships throughout the United States that are designed to advance research projects related to breast cancer.
