In addition to nutrition, the company also stresses the importance of fitness and believes that health is about living a well-balanced life. YORHealth has empowered hundreds of customers across the globe to achieve better health, more energy and self-awareness.

YORHealth helped Maika Trigos and Raul Zuniga realize their dreams. Here, they share their story.

We have so much to thank YORHealth for! We met during a YORHealth business presentation. At that moment, both of us were going through difficult times. Maika had been struggling for a long time trying to build a home and give Nathalia, Pablo, Constanza and Patch, the best principles, values and options, paying a high price in absences and guilt. I used to say I was a free soul, did not own anything that did not fit in my car, but seeking for a better road in life.

Since we decided to align our life purposes through YORHealth, it has been a challenging and happy journey. I fell deeply in love with Maika and the family and what this new YORHealth lifestyle represented, so one day I decided to sell all my belongings and move to Mexico, leave my old habits and follow the same philosophy and path in YORHealth. Maika was not used to relying on anyone to take care of her, or the kids and the future. It took me a long time to show her she was on safe ground.

It has already been a year since we made this decision to join the YORHealth team, and we have seen changes in all aspects. At home, things are easier, we share responsibility and it is amazing how all of us started a new life and belong together. We are full-time parents, partners and soul mates. It just seems that we both found our place.

Building our YORHealth team, we are able to embody the Power of Two. We are adding value to each other, by enhancing our strengths and abilities together. Our YORHealth business grew faster this year than ever before and a lot comes from feeling that we have each other’s back. We have been able to unlock our potential through YORHealth and find a way to help others who are following us. Bills are more than paid, following the YORHealth principles about truth and happiness. Finally, we can feel balance in our relationship, we had great help from Michael Mo at YORHealth, the best human being we know, who showed us with his kind ways, how to communicate and respect each other. We are certain that we want to spend our lives together, setting an example for our two girls and two boys so they can live the best life parents can offer.

We can say that running for Blue Diamond last year, was the best decision. This allowed us to build a team and more relationships with extraordinary YORHealth friends (thank you Soraya and Agustin) and to spend quality time with YORHealth Co-Founder, Dennis Wong, our personal friend and mentor, growing our friendship and learning from the most refined group of people we have ever known.

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO, Explains Types of Retirement Communities

Pam Gray Bonaventure

Pam Gray Bonaventure

Pam Gray of Bonaventure Senior Living has been in the senior care industry for more than 20 years. With a wealth of experience in serving seniors, Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO since 2007, understands that one size does not fit all when it comes to retirement communities. In the following interview, Pam Gray of Bonaventure describes some of the most popular types of retirement communities.

Interviewing Experts: Thanks for joining us! Please tell readers about Bonaventure.

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO: Bonaventure is a senior living and care company, with 37 communities located in six western U.S. states.

Interviewing Experts: Describe Bonaventure’s senior communities.

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO:  Bonaventure provides independent retirement communities, full service retirement, assisted living, and memory care residences.

Interviewing Experts: How do these residences differ?

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO: The retirement communities are for older adults who are healthy and active and want to live around other seniors and enjoy spending their free time doing what they want to do, such as participating in our wide variety of scheduled activities.

Interviewing Experts: What activities do you offer these healthy, active seniors?

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO: Bonaventure offers daily activities like gardening, dance lessons, exercise classes, arts and crafts, and scheduled outings to local attractions.

Interviewing Experts: What about Assisted Living?

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO: These communities are for seniors who want to enjoy their retirement years, but may also need assistance with daily living tasks, such as dressing and bathing. They are not necessarily in need of skilled medical care.

Interviewing Experts: What is unique about Memory Care?

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO:  Memory Care residences address the unique needs of seniors facing dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Here, the focus is on helping the senior live with dignity while taking part in activities specifically designed with their particular needs in mind.

Interviewing Experts: What other types of retirement communities are out there?

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO: There are mixed-age communities where retirees and young families live side by side. There are also independent retirement cottages sometimes located on-site with retirement living residences that are a lot like Bonaventure retirement communities.  The cottages are separate houses with their own yards, garage, full kitchens, multiple bedrooms – just like your own house but with all the benefits of a full service staff.

Interviewing Experts: Do seniors have to move from place to place as they age to get additional services?

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO: In some cases, yes. However, with Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), seniors can stay in one community all through the aging process.  As their needs changes, the communities can adapt to the resident without requiring another big move to a new location.

Interviewing Experts: Besides staying in one place, what are the benefits of CCRCs?

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO: CCRCs encourage community building and allow spouses to stay together, no matter what health concerns arise.

Interviewing Experts: What if a senior wants to stay in his or her own home?

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO: There are home health care agencies which provide in-home services.  In Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities, seniors band together to secure services they may need, like all pitching in for transportation.

Interviewing Experts: Are there other examples?

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO: Co-housing allows seniors to live in their own house or condo while sharing a community space, like cooking and dining facilities.

Interviewing Experts: What about residences for the seniors with serious medical issues?

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO: More traditional nursing homes provide skilled nursing 24 hours a day, seven days a week for those with the greatest needs.

Interviewing Experts: How should people choose a retirement community?

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO: Consider facility features; proximity to family, shopping and parks; on-site opportunities; level of care and overall expense.  Most importantly, you want to feel “at home” in your community, so developing a relationship with the care staff is crucial.

Interviewing Experts: How can people learn more about Bonaventure?

Pam Gray, Bonaventure COO: Visit us online at RetirementPerfected.com to locate your nearest community and simply come in for a visit!

Pam Gray, Bonaventure and its team pride themselves in providing compassionate care to thousands of seniors annually. In addition to senior care, Pam Gray of Bonaventure enjoys gardening and spending time with her family. To learn more about Pam Gray, Bonaventure and senior residences, call (503) 566-5715.

YOR Health Embraces Simple, Yet Effective, Philosophy

YOR Health

YOR Health

With a mission that puts people first, YOR Health is taking the world by storm with its superior nutrition products that inspire customers to live a healthy lifestyle. From the company’s many engaging conferences to global fitness challenges, YOR Health reflects everyday how a company should interact with both customers and Independent Representatives (IRs). YOR Health was established in 2008.

Rapid World Changes

The global environment, according to YOR Health, places heavy demands on citizens. To survive, people must make smart choices about how they work, how they maintain health and how they use resources available to them. Whether it’s deciding how to make the best use of time, how to spend money, or planning for the future, it’s vital to make a smart choice or risk falling behind.

Fortunately, there is help. Today’s most innovative businesses – companies like YOR Health – are stepping in with smart solutions. YOR Health was founded with a smart premise: The old ways just don’t work anymore.  Rapid changes in the world of health, finance, technology and business are reshaping the world. This new world demands new approaches, says YOR Health.

YOR Health: Finding New Answers to Old Problems

Health provides a good example, explains the team at YOR Health. In the U.S. and elsewhere, the cost of conventional healthcare is outstripping the capacity to pay. Meanwhile, YOR Health points out that biotechnology advances are pushing aside yesterday’s knowledge about how the body works and the best way to keep it healthy, lean, energetic and strong.

When the founders of YOR Health decided to look for a simple nutritional solution to improve people’s overall health and wellbeing, they didn’t settle for established answers. The YOR Health visionaries searched for new solutions and went in a novel direction, towards digestive health. As it turns out, scientists have been discovering some very interesting things about the impact of digestion on general health, reports YOR Health.

The digestive system affects every other system in the body. It is responsible for feeding every cell in every organ, according to YOR Health. So feeling tired and having low energy may be the result of digestive issues, says YOR Health. Are you struggling with weight issues? Again, poor digestion could be the culprit.

Joint and muscle aches, many types of pain, and issues such as bloating, irregularity and indigestion may trace their source to the digestive tract, explains YOR Health. Where once we saw many discrete problems, such as obesity, chronic pain, and fatigue, each with their own separate solution, we now see one ultimate problem: poor digestion. And, that means one solution. YOR Health is the solution.

YOR Health: A Smart Solution

The YOR Health approach is smart. By focusing on digestion, YOR Health is able to address a multitude of issues. That is the beauty and the simplicity of the YOR Health products, which are designed to work for a wide range of people, and to support a wide variety of challenges. This is why everyone can benefit from YOR Health products.

Customers and IRs alike know it’s a relief to have one less thing to worry about and often feel smarter after making the YOR Health choice to improve digestive health and, at the same time, improve quality of life.

Whatever your challenges are, all that is needed is to plug into the YOR Health product system, and let YOR Health provide the answers. For more information, visit YOR Health online at yorhealth.com.

Interview with Veterinarian Dr. Charles L. Starr III

Charles L. Starr III

Charles L. Starr III

A lab happily pushed through the door, greeting the director of the Veterinary Clinic as we arrived for our appointment with Charles L. Starr III. Interviewing Experts Blog was there to learn how to poison-proof our homes, and we had a list of questions for veterinarian Charles L. Starr III at the ready.

Interviewing Experts: Where do we begin in creating a safe environment, Charles L. Starr III?

Charles L. Starr III: I usually encourage owners to take it room by room. Start in the living room. Plants may seem harmless, but lilies are poisonous to cats. Open dishes of potpourri, dry or liquid should be removed. And, if you have a caged bird or pet, don’t use sprays or fragrances. Ashtrays or similar products need a new, safe location as well.

Interviewing Experts: How should we tackle the kitchen?

Charles L. Starr III: Besides chocolate, you need to remember that the raisins, grapes, macadamia nuts, unbaked yeast bread dough, fatty foods, onions and garlic on your counter are poisonous too. So is that pack of sugar-free chewing gum with xylitol.

Interviewing Experts: We would not have thought about the pack of gum!

Charles L. Starr III: Keep trashcans closed or in cabinets. They hold chicken bones, coffee grounds, moldy dairy products, or cigarette butts. And don’t forget to seal all alcoholic tightly.

Interviewing Experts: I know that bathrooms are a danger zone. What are some specific tips?

Charles L. Starr III: Unfortunately, many owners allow pets to drink in that area. Open seat covers mean access to chemical cleaners. Don’t leave medications out on the sink or in ziplock bags. Animals can easily chew through those. Keep cleaning products locked up and keep pets away when you spray.

Interviewing Experts: What about utility rooms or garages?

Charles L. Starr III: Be sure to check labels on chemicals and pesticides stored in the garage. Learn the toxic ingredients. There are no antidotes for certain products. Some dogs love to chew on old batteries, so be careful! Glues and resins should be sealed and antifreeze is also extremely harmful. Check for other auto fluids that are lying around.

Interviewing Experts: How can I protect my pets when they are outside and out of view?

Charles L. Starr III: Make sure that you have secured fertilizers and insecticides away from where your pets can find access. Dogs love fertilizers such as bone or blood meal, and insecticides contain metaldehyde. Also, if you spray the lawns in any way, keep pets off the grass until it is dry.

Interviewing Experts: Do you have any other advice for us, Charles L. Starr III?

Charles L. Starr III: Never self-medicate your pet. And don’t use dog flea or tick products on cats.  Store all medications separately from your pets and always give exact dosages.

If an emergency situation arises, Charles L. Starr III urges pet owner to call the Pet Poison Helpline (800-213-6680). Charles L. Starr III is a veterinarian.

Marla Ahlgrimm | Hot Flashes – What You Should Know

Marla Ahlgrimm

Marla Ahlgrimm

Women in perimenopause should eat well and get enough sleep, says pharmacist Marla Ahlgrimm, but there are several other ways to head off hot flashes before you feel the heat. Here, Marla Ahlgrimm, the pharmacist who taught the world about PMS in the 1970s, answers questions about hot flashes, flushes, and fending them off.

Q. What is a hot flash?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: It’s a temporary feeling of heat all over the body. It may be accompanied by sweating and facial flushing.

Q. How long do they last?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: Some women have hot flashes from before menopause that last forever. However, some women may never experience them.

Q. What causes hot flashes?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: Doctors do not completely understand what causes them but many speculate that it has something to do with hormonal changes and their effects on the hypothalamus.

Q. Do hot flashes happen during the day or at night?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: Both, in fact, some women report only experiencing hot flashes at night while others have them spontaneously around the clock.

Q. What causes flushing?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: Blood vessels in the skin dilating to help the body cool.

Q. How can I avoid hot flashes altogether?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: There is no guaranteed way to prevent hot flashes.

Q. Can stress trigger a hot flash?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: It definitely can; many women report having more frequent occurrences during times of elevated stress.

Q. Can I still drink coffee, tea, and other hot beverages while fighting hot flashes?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: Yes, but be aware that the heat from the liquid could be a trigger. As well, caffeine and other stimulants, including alcohol, may aggravate your symptoms.

Q. How should I dress to reduce the warmth of a hot flash?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: Layers are a must for women experiencing frequent flashes and cotton is highly recommended.

Q. What about night sweats? How can I combat these when they often interrupt my sleep?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: Use a lighter blanket and remove any mattress covers or feather tops from your bed and run a fan to keep cool air circulating throughout the night.

Q. Is exercise causing my hot flashes?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: Not likely as keeping active is known to help lower the severity of hot flashes in most women.

Q. What about hormone replacement therapy?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: A short-term course of HRT may help reduce or eliminate hot flashes and many other symptoms of menopause. Consult with your physician for more information.

Q. Do the foods I eat affect my tendency to experience hot flashes?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: Yes, they can, and certain foods, such as Indian, Tai, and Mexican cuisine, should be consumed in moderation during peak flash times.

Q. I’ve heard that there are botanical treatments for hot flashes and other menopause symptoms. Is that true?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: There are a number of plant based supplements including Evening Primrose Oil, black cohosh, and Dong quai but these should only be considered after medical consultation.

Q. Is estrogen still used in HRT therapy?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.:  Yes, natural estrogen is still the most common hormone therapy for severe or disruptive hot flashes.

Q. What about hydration; do I need to drink more water during menopause/perimenopause?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: Yes, it can be helpful since the body needs water to regulate.

Q. Should I alter my outdoor activities during this time?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: You should avoid strenuous activities if you have been having hot flashes. As well, you should limit your time in the sun and shy away from the hot tub and sauna.

Q. What’s the best way to reduce the effect of hot flashes on my daily life?

Marla Ahlgrimm, R.Ph.: Stay as healthy as possible. If you eat the right foods, get ample sleep, and exercise regularly, your hot flashes should be less intense. Plus, you’ll feel better overall.

Phil Melugin: When is it Time to Seek Home Health Care?

 Phil Melugin

Phil Melugin

Phil Melugin began his career in healthcare shortly after obtaining his Master of Education in 1990. Today, as president and founder of Phoenix Home Care, Phil Melugin oversees an organization that helps thousands each week, with 2,400 employees and growing. Recently, Phil Melugin spoke to Interviewing Experts about a question that’s facing many senior citizens and their families: when is it time to seek home health care?

Interviewing Experts: Does Phoenix Home Care mostly help elderly clients?

Phil Melugin: We serve a wide range of ages, from infants to those who are nearing 100 years of age. There are times when a client simply needs in-home care, whether it’s due to being rendered incapacitated due to surgery or injury or a result of a more long-term illness.

Interviewing Experts: What if I can’t afford in-home care?

Phil Melugin: In many cases, your insurance, Medicare, and/or Medicaid may pay. Your insurer should be able to let you know if in-home care is covered.

Interviewing Experts: Will my income be taken into consideration when I apply for this type of assistance?

Phil Melugin: Yes, if you or your loved one is applying for State assistance, you will have to be below the income limit to qualify.

Interviewing Experts: At what point does someone know it’s time to seek in-home care?

Phil Melugin: Often, home care can be just a temporary solution, for someone recovering from surgery or an injury that is unable to leave the house. But for a loved one with a long-term illness, it can often be difficult to decide when to make the transition to in-home care.

Interviewing Experts: It can become difficult for family members to provide around-the-clock care.

Phil Melugin: In some situations, in-home care is requested during the day, while the family is at work. If a patient is bedridden, it can become difficult for someone to be there 24/7 to take care of everything.

Interviewing Experts: When I decide to find in-home care, what type of agency should I choose?

Phil Melugin: Compassion and a commitment to customers is priority. You want a firm that puts clients first and has a good reputation in the community.

Interviewing Experts: Is Phoenix Home Care’s assistance limited to only healthcare needs?

Phil Melugin: Phoenix Home Care can provide a wide variety of services, including personal grooming, light housekeeping, and even assistance for new moms who need help with breastfeeding and learning to change a diaper.

Interviewing Experts: What about small children with injuries or developmental disabilities?

Phil Melugin: We have specialists who can care for children with a variety of conditions. We provide rehabilitative and education, among many other services.

Interviewing Experts: Where are Phoenix Home Care’s services available?

Phil Melugin: Our healthcare providers work in homes throughout Kansas and Missouri.

Interviewing Experts: How do I contact Phoenix Home Care?

Phil Melugin: You can visit our website at http://phoenixhomehc.com/ or call 417-881-7442. Our toll-free number is 855-881-7442.

Phil Melugin is a respected home healthcare administrator who has served on several boards, including a term as president of a statewide industry organization. Prior to founding Phoenix Home Care in 2011, Phil Melugin was president and co-owner of Integrity Home Care in Springfield, Missouri.

Healthy Living from Brenda Lee Reed | Natural Weight Management

Brenda Lee Reed

Brenda Lee Reed

Genesis Healing Center Founder Brenda Lee Reed says that the math is simple: healthy foods + physical activity = balanced weight.

There are many factors, says Brenda Lee Reed, that determine an individual’s ability to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.  However, the basic key to natural weight management is maintaining a lifestyle that includes healthy foods and moderate exercise. Brenda Lee Reed reports that the oldest and most common formula is to balance the number of calories from food intake with the number of calories burned through exercise.  In other words, the input of energy must balance with the output, says Brenda Lee Reed.

To lose weight, a person must burn more calories through exercise than are taken in through food consumption, explains Brenda Lee Reed.  The idea is to eat less and exercise more.  Once the desired weight has been achieved, there must be a balance of energy consumed through food and energy burned though exercise and lifestyle in order to maintain a proper weight, says Brenda Lee Reed.

According to Brenda Lee Reed, an individual that sits at a desk all day will most likely need to add a daily or weekly exercise regime in order to meet their energy output; this as opposed to someone with a more physically demanding career.

It’s a matter of movement. The most important thing, says Brenda Lee Reed, is to move the body, whether walking, jogging, or simply doing floor stretches at home.  The body must move in order to burn calories and achieve the output of energy needed to compensate for food intake.  Those seeking to move their body more should find an activity they enjoy. This, explains Brenda Lee Reed, makes it more likely they will continue to exercise.

Brenda Lee Reed says that it is vital to choose foods that are rich in nutrition.  Fruits and vegetables are not only low in calories, they contain vitamins, minerals and disease-fighting benefits that the body needs to remain healthy.  Eating produce is a basic of weight loss and weight management because they are filled with fiber and water and, Brenda Lee Reed explains, make the body feel fuller.

A good way to gauge exactly how much better fruits and vegetables are is to lay out a handful of potato chips next to three whole cups of strawberries. Brenda Lee Reed notes that the larger portion of strawberries has fewer calories while providing a larger bulk of nutritive – and tasty – fare.

Aside from the nutritional health benefits, larger portions of produce can be eaten compared to processed products without adding empty calories to a diet.  And, as Brenda Lee Reed explains to guests a Genesis Healing Center, the juices from organically grown fruits and vegetables provide more nutrients that any store bought vitamin or supplement.

Brenda Lee Reed says that natural weight management is achieved through a healthy lifestyle that includes nutritional foods and moderate physical exercise.  And, she points out that anyone can make little changes to their daily life to help them achieve their goals.

Brenda Lee Reed is the owner and founder of Genesis Healing Center. She holds certification in numerous areas of holistic treatment and has over 30 years of experience as a nutritionist. For more information, visit www.genesishealingcenter.com

The Balancing Act on Lifetime with Laundry Buyer, Lori Wood and Refrigerator Buyer, Michael Burti from Sears

The following segment aired on The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television. Joining the show was Lori Wood and Michael Burti from Sears to discuss how to get the most for your money with appliance deals.

The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television Host Danielle Knox:  Stretching our dollar is a top priority these days, so ‘The Balancing Act’ on Lifetime Television has invited Lori Wood, Laundry Buyer, and Michael Burti, Refrigerator Buyer, both with Sears, to help us save some green on our next appliance purchase. ‘Show me the money’ is a mantra that a lot of Americans are chanting these days.  When shopping for appliances can we do well in both price and value? Is it possible to have both?

Wood:  Absolutely, value is different to every consumer and we offer over 3,600 appliances at Sears, so we really do have a value that’s meaningful to every consumer. No matter what their budge is, no matter what the size of their wallet is, we have great products at every price point, from the top of the line down to whatever price point the customer is interested in spending.

The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television: Times are tough for so those price points may be lower for many of us. Do we have to sacrifice performance for price?

Burti:  Absolutely not.  You don’t have to sacrifice performance.  You’re probably going to have to sacrifice some features if you’re on a budget, but that’s okay.  I think what it’s going to come down to is having to do a little bit more research ahead of time, really trying to understand what features you have to have and which features you can live without.

The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television: How important is it to do your research, especially in these economic times?

Burti:  Without a doubt, if it’s an appliance then you are going to be living with it for a long time. You want to make sure that you’re going to be satisfied with it and that it is going to meet all of your needs.  Definitely do the research ahead of time, making sure that if you’re on a budget that you are going to get all of the features that you expect to get out of the appliance.

The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television: It seems like every day a new energy-efficient appliance pops up.  More and more, people are thinking about this. More and more consumers are heading towards buying these kinds of products.

Wood: it’s a great way to go when you buy a new appliance and especially important because you will have it for a long time.  Today’s appliances are more energy-efficient than they have ever been.  In addition to saving water and saving energy which is so important, it saves you money so your utility bills are less.  The machines on the market today, like dishwashers use so much less water than before that they actually use less than if you washed dishes by hand.  And in a washing machine you can fit 25 bath towels in one load so you can do that many less loads of laundry.  They spin so fast that they take most of the moisture out of the clothes so you are also using your dryer for a lot less time.

Burti:  The appliance industry has come a long way and it’s really interesting to see all the things they’ve done to help save both water and energy.

The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television: I think the other important issue that a lot of us out there are worried about is the value.  Great value in important but the next question has to do with warranties and service.

Burti: A good thing about purchasing an appliance at Sears is the fact that we have our own service organization and when you make a purchase at Sears, your appliance is covered for a full year, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, support on the phone and certainly if you need service, we have 10,000 trained technicians that are available 7 days a week for service.

The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television: How does Sears stack up to its competitors in terms of affordability and quality?

Wood:  We would like to tell you that we’re the leader in the industry as far as selection of appliances overall, especially as far as selection of energy star appliances.  And with the service organization that we just told you about, we can give you service and assurance with our price match that no one else can do.  You can go to sears.com for more information.

The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television is the only morning show in America produced by women specifically for women. Every morning, The Balancing Act on Lifetime hosts Danielle Knox and Kristy Villa tackle the issues that face today’s woman. Popular show segments include Live weather updates with Mark Mancuso, surprise celebrity visitors, and news about the latest trends affecting your life, home, career and family. The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television airs daily on Lifetime at 7 a.m. ET/PT. For more information, visit The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television’s website at www.thebalancingact.com.

Philip Melugin is owner and president of Phoenix Home Care, a home healthcare organization that services clients in Missouri and Kansas. But home healthcare isn’t the only way Philip Melugin is combining his passion with business. Melugin owns and runs Pheasant Run Ranch, which features 5,000 sprawling acres of wild bird hunting in Kansas. Today, Philip Melugin talks to Interviewing Experts about the ranch.

Interviewing Experts: We’ve seen photos of Pheasant Run Ranch. It looks beautiful.

Philip Melugin: It’s my home away from home. 5,000 acres of beautiful green grass and wildlife.

Interviewing Experts: Explain a little about the hunts available at Pheasant Run.

Philip Melugin: We have a variety of wild birds, including turkey, pheasant, and quail. Our staff works hard to create an environment that keeps birds on our land, rather than migrating elsewhere. Our bird hunters can opt for a guided hunt and we also include accommodations for those wishing to spend the night to be well-rested for hunting.

Interviewing Experts: What about deer hunting?

Philip Melugin: We currently have whitetail deer. Whitetail deer hunting season kicks up in the fall and lasts into early winter, so we have quite a crowd at the lodge that time of year.

Interviewing Experts: Does someone have to have a hunting license to participate in hunts at Pheasant Run Ranch?

Philip Melugin: Yes, a hunting license is required. Residents can choose between one-time licenses, annual hunting licenses, and lifetime hunting licenses. Licenses are available through the Kansas Department of Wildlife at www.kdwp.state.ks.us.

Interviewing Experts: If someone wants to participate in a hunt at Pheasant Run, how do they sign up?

Philip Melugin: There are dates currently available, but I recommend anyone interested in coming to Pheasant Run make reservations now. You can call 785-476-5736 or sign up for hunts via e-mail at hunt@pheasantrunranch.net.

Interviewing Experts: Can reservations be made through that phone number and e-mail address, as well?

Philip Melugin: Yes. When you call or e-mail to schedule a hunt, just let us know that you’re interested in accommodations, as well. Even for those who aren’t staying the night, though, you’ll have access to our newly renovated main lodge, with internet access and satellite TV, if you want to relax throughout the day.
