California Entrepreneur Dennis Wong Offers His Philosophy on Business

Dennis-Wong-LeadershipIn this exclusive interview, Interviewing Experts speaks with noted Chinese businessman Dennis Wong who says the recipe for happiness is a mere three ingredients.

Interviewing Experts: Thank you for allowing us to visit with you today, Dennis Wong.

Dennis Wong: My pleasure.

Interviewing Experts: You have had a career in real estate. What caused the switch to health products?

Dennis Wong: In my early 40s I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes and my arteries were clogging up. I had also begun researching nutritional supplements, so the transition just made sense.

Interviewing Experts: So it was a matter of convenience?

Dennis Wong: It was more a matter of necessity.

Interviewing Experts: Essentially, YOR Health was established based on a need. Do you think that everyone is so lucky in their careers?

Dennis Wong: I believe that happy people do work that enhances that feeling.

Interviewing Experts: YOR Health seems to have a lot of happy people.

Dennis Wong: We are fortunate to be associated with hundreds of happy and healthy customers and representatives alike.

Interviewing Experts: All of the YOR Health Independent Representatives share a common goal. Can you explain what that is?

Dennis Wong: I believe that all of us at YOR Health want to make the best out of the time we have. We are all here for our own reasons.

Interviewing Experts: And what are those reasons?

Dennis Wong: Some are here to get healthy while others enjoy the financial freedom that YOR Health provides. Either way, we all believe in the products and the long-lasting positive effect the products can have.

Interviewing Experts: You have a real passion for your business and for those who represent it.

Dennis Wong: I honestly believe that business is a way to group people together that have similar interests.

Interviewing Experts: Does YOR Health have a diverse crowd of representatives?

Dennis Wong: Yes, but I would say that they have all chosen this career for a love of the products. So, while they may be different on the outside, they are all very much alike.

Interviewing Experts: You are often quoted as saying that being happy is really very simple. Most people tend to disagree.

Dennis Wong: Yes, and those are the people who are not happy. I’ve found in my experience that people are not that hard to please. Health, wealth and self-awareness usually equal happiness.

Interviewing Experts: But can’t it be difficult to achieve those traits?

Dennis Wong: Many people don’t even try. However, those who work on themselves first by eating right, exercising and enhancing their diet with nutritious products start feeling better. This leads to being able to better provide for themselves and their families, which in turn points their attention to the things that matter most—they become self-aware of themselves.

Interviewing Experts: And what about those people who never seem satisfied?

Dennis Wong: These are the people who want to achieve. It doesn’t matter what they achieve as long as they achieve something.

Interviewing Experts: What in your opinion can someone do to find true contentment?

Dennis Wong: Without hesitation, I say helping other people.

Interviewing Experts: We understand that that is one of the main allures of YOR Health?

Dennis Wong: Absolutely. Once our customers notice the significant change in their health they want to share that with other people. When you feel good, it is human nature to want to be around other people who feel the same.

Interviewing Experts: There’s no arguing with that.

Dennis Wong: Well, happiness is something worth sharing.

Interviewing Experts: Indeed. We’ll leave our readers with that thought.

About Dennis Wong: More than just the founder of YOR Health, Dennis Wong is an inspiration and role model. Having overcome a number of health issues utilizing YOR Health products and implementing a healthy diet and exercise program, Dennis Wong is in his 50s and in the best shape of his life. Richard-E-Dover-Interviewing-Experts-Alexander-SaleRichard E. Dover is a real estate developer based in Knoxville, Tenn. Richard E. Dover has previously worked as a project manager for General Homes of Houston, Texas, as well as for its parent company CBRE. Richard E. Dover was also an independent real estate developer until becoming general manager of Family Pride Corporation in 1993. Here Richard E. Dover discuses a recent community event held in conjunction with a renovation project in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Interviewing Experts: Welcome, Richard E. Dover! Tell us about what you and Family Pride are doing in Oak Ridge.

Richard E. Dover: We have started renovations on the historic Alexander Inn, an old hotel that housed scientists who were working on the atomic bomb with the top-secret Manhattan Project during World War II.

Interviewing Experts: Are you restoring it as a hotel?

Richard E. Dover: No, we are converting it into a high-quality assisted living facility.

Interviewing Experts: But it is a historic renovation, right?

Richard E. Dover: Yes, we are restoring its exterior and much of the interior to its original form.

Interviewing Experts: Was it always called the Alexander Inn?

Richard E. Dover: No, it opened in 1942 as the Guest House and once hosted such dignitaries as physicists J. Robert Oppenheimer and Enrico Fermi, and Secretary of War Henry Stimson.

Interviewing Experts: So tell us more about the recent estate sale.

Richard E. Dover: We had lots of rooms to clear since the Alexander Inn had been vacant for more than 20 years. Some truly historic furnishings were donated to local museums, but we wanted to offer some to the public as well.

Interviewing Experts: Was there a good turnout?

Richard E. Dover: Oh, yes! At about halfway, we estimated 500 people had already been through.

Interviewing Experts: Wow, that’s a great turnout!

Richard E. Dover: Well, it was an unprecedented opportunity to buy items from the 1940s to the 1980s, including bed frames and Bibles, chairs and chandeliers, and dishes and dressers. It also gave the public a rare opportunity to see inside the front part of the hotel before renovations begin.

Interviewing Experts: There must have been quite a crowd.

Richard E. Dover: At one point, the line of people waiting to get in stretched from the hotel, located on East Madison Road in Jackson Square, to Kentucky Avenue.

Interviewing Experts: Were you pleased?

Richard E. Dover: I was very pleased with the community support. Actually, I was stunned, almost speechless!

Interviewing Experts: Did you organize this sale yourselves?

Richard E. Dover: No, the East Tennessee Preservation Alliance (ETPA) organized the sale, in conjunction with Knox Heritage’s Salvage Room.

Interviewing Experts: And how about the redevelopment project itself—do you have partners?

Richard E. Dover: The ETPA helped make the hotel redevelopment project possible and the proceeds from Saturday’s sale benefited the nonprofit organization.

Interviewing Experts: Is this an official historic site?

Richard E. Dover: The Alexander Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and preservationists have worked for a decade or more to save it.

Interviewing Experts: Has there been any federal involvement?

Richard E. Dover: Yes, a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy helped make the project possible.

Interviewing Experts: Tell us more about what the new facility will be like.

Richard E. Dover: The center will cost $6.5 million to complete and will have 60 units, including a wing for patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Interviewing Experts: Thanks so much for talking with us.

Richard E. Dover: My pleasure.

Bonaventure Senior Living Pays Tribute to Arthur Winston

Bonaventure Senior Living is all about embracing life one day at a time. That is exactly what 1996 “Employee of the Century” Arthur Winston did. Winston, a dedicated Los Angeles Metro worker for more than 70 years, lived past his 100th birthday and still serves as a reminder that age is only a number, not a barrier. Here, Bonaventure Senior Living speaks to Interviewing Experts about this American icon.

Interviewing Experts: Where was Arthur Winston born?

Bonaventure Senior Living: He was born in Oklahoma Territory more than a year and a half before the state was accepted into the union.

Interviewing Experts: What was his first job?

Bonaventure Senior Living: After he graduated from Jefferson High School in 1922, he accepted a job at the Los Angeles Railway. He quit after four years because racial barriers barred him from driving a bus.

Interviewing Experts: But he returned?

Bonaventure Senior Living: Yes, he was not going to let racism stop him from being a part of the community. He worked at Los Angeles Railway in various departments until his 100th birthday.

Interviewing Experts: He spent a great deal of time at the Metropolitan Coach Line (MCL), correct?

Bonaventure Senior Living: He was with MCL for 25 years. In 1997 he was transferred, on the day before his 91st birthday, to Division 5, which was later named after him.

Interviewing Experts: Bill Clinton gave him a special commendation. Can you explain?

Bonaventure Senior Living: In 2006, Winston was awarded “Employee of the Century” for having only one unscheduled absence his entire career.

Interviewing Experts: And what was that?

Bonaventure Senior Living: The day his wife Frances passed away in 1988.

Interviewing Experts: How long was he married?

Bonaventure Senior Living: Mr. and Mrs. Winston were married for more than 63 years. They had four children and five grandchildren.

Interviewing Experts: Where did Mr. Winston get such amazing work ethic?

Bonaventure Senior Living: He always said that his father taught him early on that there is value in hard work and dedication.

Interviewing Experts: Arthur was known as an inspiration throughout the Metro Transit Authority, wasn’t he?

Bonaventure Senior Living: Yes, and in the months before his passing, he made a point to visit every department and speak to the younger generation of LA Transit employees. This definitely made an impact on many.

Interviewing Experts: Winston was loved by many. We understand his 100th birthday party was quite the celebration.

Bonaventure Senior Living: It was a grand affair, indeed. More than 150 people—friends, family and coworkers—came out for the barbecue lunch in Chesterfield Square.

Interviewing Experts: And he had some extra-special visitors, right?

Bonaventure Senior Living: Yes, the Laker Girls. He was a big basketball fan and these ladies were absolutely his favorite part of the game. The cheerleaders brought in a massive birthday cake and sat with Arthur as he blew out the candles.

Interviewing Experts: How did Mr. Winston contribute to his longevity?

Bonaventure Senior Living: He didn’t smoke or drink. He always said that stress was a killer and made sure to avoid credit cards. Of course, having an active social life within a large network of family and friends helped.

Interviewing Experts: What did Arthur do in his spare time?

Bonaventure Senior Living: He was passionate about staying active, and on his 100th birthday—when he retired—he said he would spend his days working in the yard and tending the garden.

Interviewing Experts: And he liked to travel?

Bonaventure Senior Living: Yes, he often visited friends around Los Angeles. He had family in Oklahoma and a brother in Tennessee who he liked to go and see. He was not one to sit still.

Arthur Winston passed away peacefully in his sleep after a short illness in 2006. He was surrounded by loved ones, including his 4-year-old great-grandson—his pride and joy.
